This October, Music Director Dan Ettinger opens the 2026–27 season at The Israeli Opera, conducting Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.

The production marks an immediate return to the podium for Ettinger, following his acclaimed July 2026 performances of Puccini’s Tosca, which brought the company’s milestone 40th anniversary season to a close. Ettinger’s approach to Mozart’s classic has drawn wide critical praise for its balance of crisp orchestral precision, buoyant pacing, and an emphasis on the dramatic weight of the score over mere convention.

The production showcases an excellent double cast, with Tamino and Pamina being shared by tenors George Vîrban and David Kerber, and sopranos Alla Vasilevitsky and Yael Levita. The formidable Queen of the Night is shared by coloratura specialists Hila Fahima and Nofar Yaacobi, performing opposite basses Severin Savitchi and Yoav Ayalon as the high priest Sarastro. The bird-catcher Papageno is performed by baritones Oded Reich and Jacob Scharfman, joined by sopranos Shaked Strul and Rania Atieh as Papagena, with Anthony Webb and Adi Ezra alternating as Monostatos.

Performances run throughout October at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center.
