‘Aida’ at Finnish National Opera
This fall, Dan Ettinger makes his Finnish National Opera debut conducting Verdi’s dramatic masterpiece, Aida. Ettinger has previously conducted this masterwork at the Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, and LA Opera, which marked his high-profile United States debut in 2005.
Ettinger leads two exciting casts, with Monica Zanettin and Liana Aleksanyan sharing the title role, alongisde Giorgi Sturua and Milen Bozhkov as Radamès, Emilia Rukavina and Tuija Knihtilä as Amneris, Tuomas Pursio and Samuli Takkula as Amonasro, Dong-Hwan Lee (Don Lee) and Young-Doo Park as Ramfis, Volodymyr Tyshkov and Koit Soasepp as the King, Anna Barletta and Marianne Montonen as the High Priestess, and Johannes Pessi and Otso Sipilä as the Messenger. Noa Naamat directs the opera in a co-production with the State Theatre Darmstadt, where the story unfolds in the modern Middle East instead of the world of the Pharaohs.
Aida runs August 28 through October 1 on the main stage of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet.
