Operatic favorites with the Orchestra di Teatro San Carlo
On November 18, Dan Ettinger returns to the Teatro San Carlo, where he is Music Director, leading the orchestra in a concert of operatic favorites. They are joined by superstar soprano Asmik Grigorian, who was recently awarded Female Singer of the Year at the 2025 International Opera Awards. It’s a welcome reunion for Ettinger and Grigorian, who previously collaborated on an acclaimed production of Rusalka, also in Naples, a production that was hailed as “exemplary,” “luminous,” and “emotionally profound” by Bachtrack.
The concert will open with Wagner’s grand and triumphant overture to his opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, followed by selections from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and Manon Lescaut. The Prelude to Verdi’s thrilling Macbeth comes next, followed by Lady Macbeth’s showstopping aria, “Vieni, t’affretta.” The program concludes with two selection from Richard Strauss’ Salome: the famed “Dance of the Seven Veils” and Salome’s chilling finale, “Ah! Du woltest mich nicht deinen Mund küssen lasse.”
