Prokofiev’s ‘Peter and the Wolf’ with the Israel Symphony Orchestra
Dan Ettinger returns to Israel to conduct the Israel Symphony Orchestra in a series of concerts on July 25, 28, 29, & 31. The concert program features Prokofiev’s remarkable composition, Peter and the Wolf, narrated by renowned actress Zippi Shavit.
Prokofiev wrote his famous Peter and the Wolf in Russia after many years outside of his homeland, living in Paris and touring the world, including several visits to the United States. Subtitled “An Orchestral Fairy Tale for Children,” listeners can follow the story as the narrator tells it by recognizing each character by an instrument or instruments of the orchestra: the bird by a flute, the duck by an oboe, the cat by a clarinet, the grandfather by a bassoon, the wolf by three horns, Peter by the strings, the shooting of the hunters by the timpani and bass drum.
