Dan Ettinger appointed as Music Director of Teatro di San Carlo
Dan Ettinger has been appointed as the next Music Director of the Teatro di San Carlo, beginning on January 1, 2023. Ettinger will continue his parallel roles as Music Director of the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, the Israel Opera, and Music Director & Chief Conductor of the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker.
This season at Teatro di San Carlo, the house streamed Ettinger’s debut concert with the Orchestra of Teatro di San Carlo and pianist Alexander Melnikov. Recorded live on March 31, the fantastic program included Rachmaninoff’s lively Piano Concerto No. 1 and Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony, which the composer described as “an echo of my most intimate spiritual life.” He recently returned to conduct concert performances of Bizet’s Carmen with a star-studded cast in the beautiful Piazza del Plebiscito. Elīna Garanča starred as the title role Carmen, with Brian Jagde as Don José, Mattia Olivieri as Escamillo, Daniele Terenzi as Moralès, Gabriele Sagona as Zuniga, Selene Zanetti as Micaëla, Aurora Faggioli as Mercédès, and Mariam Battistelli as Frasquita, among others.
