Puccini’s ‘Tosca’ at Teatro di San Carlo
This September, Dan Ettinger returns to Napoli’s Teatro di San Carlo, where he is Music Director, for Puccini’s thrilling tragedy, Tosca. Ettinger’s interpretation of this highly dramatic score has been widely praised. Of his performances at the Paris Opera, Operawire said, “He was able to bring sensitivity into the scenes full of violence, and power into the desperate moments. And all those details of the multi-layered score were shadowed by the Ettinger masterfully. A vigorous conductor drew well-formed and sensual playing from the orchestra, and the cast only bolstered his work.”
Ettinger leads an all-star cast in Edoardo De Angelis’ production, with Sondra Radvanovsky, Anna Pirozzi, and Carmen Giannattasio sharing the title role. The opera also features Francesco Meli, Vittorio Grigolo, and Yusif Eyvazov as Mario Cavaradossi, with Luca Salsi and Claudio Sgura as Scarpia, Lorenzo Mazzucchelli as Angelotti, and Pietro Di Bianco as the Sacristan.
