‘Madama Butterfly’ in Tokyo
Dan Ettinger takes the podium at the Tokyo Nikikai Opera Theatre for performances of Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly on July 18, 19, 20, and 21.
Amon Miyamoto’s production, seen at the San Francisco Opera last season, features Pinkerton recounting the story of himself and Cio-Cio San to their son, Adult Trouble, many years after the original events.
The alternating cast features Hiromi Omura/Eri Takahashi as Cio-Cio San, Eriko Hanafusa/Eiko Koizumi as Suzuki, Yuki Sugiyama/Maho Ishino as Kate Pinkerton, Hironori J0/Gohei Kohashi as Pinkerton, Shunsuke Imai/Kei Yonashiro as Sharpless, Kei Kondo/Tadahiro Masujima as Goro, Takahiro Sugiura/Yoshiki Kobayashi as Yamadori, Hiroshi Kaneko/Hirohisa Sannohe as Lo zio Bonzo, Tetsuya Oi/Kimihiro Sugaya as the Imperial Commissioner.
